  Tasks in the Photovoltaics Environment:

The Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) can support research studies which concern its area of responsibilities. Special emphasis is given to the relevant environmental aspects of photovoltaics.
The FOEN also represents Switzerland in international, climate-related policy commissions (such as the UNFCCC , GEF). Through these commissions, there are possibilities to realize international photovoltaic projects, especially in the field of development cooperation.
The deployment of photovoltaics is coordinated in the area of development collaboration together with the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The deployment of photovoltaics is coordinated in the field of development collaboration. Coordination takes place through the REPIC platform.

  Short Description:
The FOEN is the specialized environmental office of the federal government and it is part of the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (UVEK). The FOEN is also responsible for environmental interests. It looks for solutions, which also take into consideration concerned social matters and economic demands. National and international responsibilities of the FOEN include: climate protection, diversity of species, water conservation, landscape and forest preservation, making provisions for natural disasters, diminishing noise pollution, limiting the risks of genetic engineering and providing for cleaner air. Environmental protection is realized as much as possible with voluntary measures, incentives and with the aid of the "polluter-payer" principle.
