The Swiss Professionals Association for Solar Energy - SOLAR, since 2006 known as SWISSOLAR, includes members from the solar business area and constitutes the most important Swiss trade association for solar energy. With its members and partner organizations it advocates significant growth in the solar energy industrial sector. SOLAR's activities support: membership benefits, customer orientation, ecological and social benefits. SOLAR's goal is to promote solar energy use by means of information and education. SOLAR advises on energy politics objectives, further education of members and other interested parties in order to increase professional competence. SOLAR also advices on the improvement of materials, components, and systems with regard to yield, service life, operational safety, reliability, efficiency, and aesthetics.

SOLAR is the result of a merger between the former German speaking professional association SOFAS (Sonnenenergie Fachverband der Schweiz, established in 1978) and the former French speaking professional association PROMES (Association des professionnels Romands de l'énergie solaire, established in 1986). Since 2006, SOLAR is a member of the association for solar energy (SWISSOLAR).
