  Tasks in the Photovoltaics Environnement:
In view of the increasing importance of international exchange in the area of science, the State Secretariat for Education and Research SER is concentrating its efforts on the networking of Switzerland internationally as a university and research location. The focus on cooperation areas conducive to the mobility of students, teaching staff and researchers is not confined solely to Europe. Accordingly, SER efforts are increasingly geared to collaboration with suitable non-European partner countries and regions. For photovoltaics, it is of special importance that there is Swiss participation in projects of the 7th Framework RTD Programme of the EU. Swiss Photovoltaics has traditionally and quite successfully been participating in the EU's Non-Nuclear Energy Programme. The 7th framework programme (RP7) began on January 1, 2007. FP7, which applies to the years 2007-2013, is the natural successor to the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
  Short Description:

As of January 2005, the Swiss Science Agency (GWF) and the Swiss Federal Office for Education and Science are under the administrative authority of the State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER). The SER is a part of the Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA. The SER within the Federal Department of Home Affairs is the federal government's specialised agency for national and international matters concerning general and university education, research and space. It coordinates corresponding activities within the federal administration and assures cooperation within the cantons.

In the area of science and research, the SER:

  • Finances the Swiss National Science Foundation and the scientific academies;
  • Promotes at least 20 research institutes outside the university circuit;
  • Is responsible for and finances Swiss membership in international research organisations and Switzerland's participation in European and international research programmes and cooperation projects;
  • Develops Switzerland's international relations at multilateral and bilateral level;
  • Coordinates the federal administration's sectoral research in conjunction with the Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology.
